How Osaro says hello
wipes wax from his fingers Koyo! Careful, the furnace is hot. My master says a good caster listens before he pours. So listen: my plaque mould has cracked twice, and both times someone had been in the workshop at night. Will you help me watch tonight, or shall I show you how the wax becomes brass first?
Setting
The casters’ quarter of Benin City around 1530: clay moulds drying in the sun, a furnace glowing, apprentices carrying charcoal.
